When Henry Musser announces that he is bringing a new factory into Wagstaff, a shrinking rural town of "used-to-be"s, the news couldn't be better except for one problem: the planned location of the plant requires that a very important tree in the town's history, Old Oak, be cut down. Most residents are willing to live with this small trade-off, but Henry's youngest son Mitch (Andy Lawrence) is deeply upset. Mitch is a bit of an outcast, and for him, the tree is a place to escape.
